Connecting with Nature Through “Shinrin-Yoku” or Forest Bathing

The idea of spending quality time in nature may seem simple, but it is actually quite profound and often life changing. The Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, or “Forest Bathing” embodies the concept that healing, relaxation and rejuvenation can occur by immersing oneself in nature and walking slowly through forests and under canopies of trees. It has even been suggested that forest bathing can help keep cancer at bay. According to shinrin-yoku.org, the scientifically-proven benefits of forest bathing include:

  • Boosted immune system functioning, with an increase in the count of the body’s Natural Killer (NK) cells
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Reduced stress
  • Improved mood
  • Increased ability to focus, even in children with ADHD
  • Accelerated recovery from surgery or illness
  • Increased energy level
  • Improved sleep

Healing and Rejuvenating Through Forest Bathing at L’Auberge

a path through a forestGiven the unique location of L’Auberge de Sedona on the banks of Oak Creek, and being tucked under thick canopies of sycamore trees, it is the perfect spot to practice forest bathing. The “Connecting with Nature” activity offered at L’Auberge was inspired by Shinrin-Yoku, and allows guests to experience the healing, relaxing and restorative elements that result through connecting with nature. According to Ph.D. Devani Paige, a holistic expert and meditation/yoga teacher at L’Auberge, “there is a presence, a healer…a beneficial quality that is felt while slowing down in nature that cannot be denied.” L’Auberge de Sedona is immersed in nature, flora and fauna, giving guests the gift of having an incredible forest bathing experience simply by lingering about the property.

Connecting With Nature Activity at L’Auberge

During the “Connecting With Nature” activity, a certified Forest Bathing Facilitator will lead guests into a timelessness shift, where through a series of invitations, they immerse and commune with nature, creating an experience like never before. The activity lasts about 60 minutes, is offered on property weekly, and is complimentary for guests. The spa menu also offers private and group Forest Bathing options for those seeking a more in-depth, guided experience. The spa menu offerings also include a formal traditional Shinrin-Yoku closing tea ceremony, which is made from local indigenous herbs and plants, as well as a keepsake journal to use during Forest Bathing and as a take home gift.

To book a private or guided group Forest Bathing session, contact the spa by email or call 1-844-330-8372.
