As a guest of L’Auberge de Sedona, you are given the opportunity to take part in our daily guest activities.  We strive to offer unique and experiential activities that will enhance your visit to Sedona.  One of our wellness offerings available weekly is Sound Healing.  Our activity leader for Sound Healing, Ms. Devani Paige, Ph.D.,  has answered questions about what Sound Healing is and what guests can expect to receive from the activity.

What is Sound Healing?

Sound Healing is one of the oldest, most natural forms of healing known to man.  The power of sound can be used to restore one’s mind, body, and spirit back into a state of balance, supporting greater health and well-being.  Sounds can include one’s own voice with toning and chanting and/or natural instruments. Primordial sounds, which are the basic, most essential sounds of nature, such as the wind in the trees, the waves on the shore, and the beating of one’s heart, also have a positive affect on our vibration and energies.

What are the benefits of Sound Healing?

Benefits of experiencing Sound Healing include calming the nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety, lowering blood pressure, reducing aches and pains, improving breathing and circulation, as well as boosting the immune system.  It puts one into a relaxed and meditative state which is an excellent antidote to our fast paced modern lifestyles.

Everything in the entire Universe is sound or vibration.  The yogi’s believe that OM is the first sound of the Universe, that it is the primordial sound associated with the creation of Universe from nothing. Yoga operates from the principle that our inner reality creates our outer reality, so if we want to see changes in our lives, it begins through an internal shift.  We have to alter our vibrational frequency so that we attract at a different level.  Our frequency has to match what we want to manifest. Using our own voice to tone or chant is very powerful to create this shift. We can simply open our mouths and let out and AHHHHHH or OMMMMM.

There are certain ancient, transformational mantras, such as Sat Nam and Sa Ta Na Ma. These revered mantras are a way to reorient the mind and open ourselves up to the possibilities of transformational change.  In the lineage of Kundalini yoga and Yogi Bhajan, mantras are powerful tools for clearing and restructuring the subconscious mind, which is what creates our reality. The mantras power to recreate balance in the mind, is so primal that it impacts and rearranges the subconscious mind at the level where habits are created.

  • Sat Nam~ Sat means TRUTH and Nam means NAME/IDENTITY. It seeds the truth in our consciousness by awaking us to our own divine identity. (chant Sat Nam with arms up, hands together overhead)
  • Sa Ta Na Ma ~ using voice and hand mudras. (If you do just ONE mantra for great positive change, this is it. Yogi Bhajan says it does everything for you in the order that you need. Whatever you need at the moment, it will readjust and align you to bring balance into your mind and thus your life. Sa: Is the beginning, the infinity, the totality of everything that ever was, is, or will be. Ta: Is life, existence, creativity. Na: Death, transformation. Ma: Rebirth, regeneration, resurrection, allowing us to experience joy in the infinity. First finger: Jupiter, brings knowledge and expands our field. Middle finger: Saturn, gives us patience, wisdom and purity. Ring finger: Sun, Vitality/Aliveness. Little finger: Mercury, aides in clear communication
