In May, we opened our doors to the Gaden Shartse Monks as they created one of their sacred mandalas. According to Buddhist scripture, sand mandalas transmit positive energy to the environment and to the people who view them. A tradition dating back over a thousand years, the monks use metal tubes filled with colored sand to create a detailed, two-dimensional sand painting. The result is nothing short of spectacular. After almost 80 hours of meticulous artistry, the monks had completed The Green Tara of Compassion, a mandala representing compassion in action.
